Flags of Friendship: a poem by Alana Hughes
The following poem is by Alana Hughes, a friend of the McIlwaine family, who will start secondary school in the fall. If only everyone thought this way…
Flags of Friendship by Alana Hughes
Why can we not all get along,
I don’t know what is wrong.
Can’t we get together and be friends with one another?
Why do we all fight I don’t know why we bother?
We have to respect different celebrations,
Different religions throughout the nations.
We all have different days in our culture,
And isn’t it time we learn to share?
My community is all mixed,
But no one fights around me.
We are all friends, can’t our friendship all be fixed?
I wish people would open their eyes and see.
